Galileo was born in 1864 in Florence, where everything begins with the production of precision optical and mechanical instruments. One hundred and sixty years later, EssilorLuxottica chooses this anniversary to relaunch the brand with a new visual identity, three new products and a completely renewed digital presence. Our task was not only to build a site: it was to give shape to the story of a brand that is reborn without renouncing anything, that carries its own past as a value and not as a burden.
The platform is WordPress with WooCommerce as the catalogue structure for the ophthalmic lens range, Iconica 1864, Iconica 1864 Young and Miria 1864, and an integrated Store Locator with geolocation to guide the user toward the partner optical centres in the area. The choice answers precise criteria of scalability and management autonomy: the Galileo team updates content and products without the need for external technical intervention, with a structure designed to grow over time.
The design faithfully translates the new brand identity: clean elements, essential typography and a palette centred on burgundy bordeaux, a colour that recalls the Italian flag and the Tuscan land where Galileo's history took its first steps. It is not minimalism by convention, it is minimalism with a reason: every graphic choice reflects the precision and the quality that the brand has always embodied, creating immediate coherence between the product and its digital representation.
The homepage is built as a vertical narrative sequence that accompanies the user through the history of the brand, the new logo with the claim, the palette and the flagship products, without ever turning into a simple corporate presentation. For a relaunch, this type of narrative architecture is decisive: the historical credibility and the modernity of the project cannot coexist simply by being placed side by side, they must feed each other, and the site is built with exactly this logic.
The Store Locator with geolocation is one of the strategic elements of the project: Galileo distributes exclusively through a network of opticians and specialised centres, so bringing the user to the nearest point of sale is a concrete conversion. Particular care was dedicated to mobile performance, where the largest share of the target's traffic is concentrated. The result is a digital tool built to measure for the relaunch, capable of turning an anniversary into a real starting point for a new phase of the brand.
