Ferrara Marathon, launch website for the marathon

Relaunching a marathon in a Renaissance city

Ferrara Marathon is the site of the relaunch of the official marathon of Ferrara, a running event with 42K, 21K and 10K distances scheduled for 28 February 2027. It is not a completely new event but a return, and this adds a precise narrative dimension: there is something to rediscover, an emotion to rekindle. The project is positioned in a specific phase of an event's life cycle: not the communication of something with a recent history to show, but the construction of anticipation, the creation of desire around a date that is still far off. And 2027 has one more argument to spend: Ferrara is European City of Sport that year.

The platform is WordPress, with the same technological stack as the Ravenna Marathon, managed by the same organiser, Ravenna InSport. The technological coherence between the two projects is not accidental: it makes it possible to capitalise on the experience already gained by applying tested solutions to a new context, without reinventing the infrastructure from scratch, and it guarantees a more efficient management of both platforms over time. The visual identity, however, is completely independent, built around the historical and architectural specificity of Ferrara.

The design is elegant and Renaissance, with images that showcase the architectural heritage of the Este city: the Palazzo dei Diamanti, which inspired the event's logo, Corso Ercole I d'Este, the Castle, the walls. Ferrara is UNESCO Heritage as "city of the Renaissance and its Po Delta", it is flat and cyclable, runner-friendly by definition, and the site builds around all of this a concrete proposal for the runners who seek not only a race but an experience. The "Why Ferrara" section articulates this in five arguments: Emilian hospitality, UNESCO art and museums, free training sessions, inclusion and the dimension of a runner-friendly city.

The structure of the homepage follows a precise narrative funnel: the date at the opening installs the event in the runner's mind, the three distances (Ferrara Marathon 42K, Ferrara Half Marathon 21K, Ferrara City Run 10K) immediately invite action with the early bird prices, and the detail of what is included in the registration, from the personalised bib to the access to the affiliated museums, reduces the uncertainties and lowers the barrier to conversion. A video shows the city in motion. The newsletter collects the contacts of those who are not yet ready to register but want to stay updated.

The sponsors have visibility on the main page, recognising that for an event in the relaunch phase the credibility of the commercial partners is an important signal of the solidity of the project. An event that returns after an absence has to build trust through multiple signals, and the quality of the partners is one of these. The site is a tool ready to support the growth of the event up to the date, with the technological foundations to manage thousands of registrations and to communicate the uniqueness of a marathon in the heart of one of the most beautiful cities of the Italian Renaissance.
