The Ravenna Marathon has a characteristic that no other Italian marathon can claim: the 42 kilometres of the race touch all eight of the city's UNESCO monuments, from the Basilica of San Vitale to the Mausoleum of Theodoric, from the Neonian Baptistery to Sant'Apollinare in Classe. Running in Ravenna is not running in a beautiful city, it is crossing a heritage that in 1996 UNESCO declared to belong to all of humanity. The site has the task of communicating this uniqueness with the same evocative force with which it is experienced by those already on the starting line, turning the online visitor's curiosity into a concrete registration decision for the 42K, 21K and 10K distances.
The platform used is WordPress, the site manages thousands of annual registrations with reliability during the peaks of traffic that characterise the opening of the registrations. For an event of this size, with an Italian Master Championship scheduled for the 2026 edition, technical robustness is not an optional extra: a system that slows down or freezes in the moments of greatest demand is a direct reputational and commercial damage. The architecture is chosen and configured with this requirement as a priority.
The design is dynamic and immersive, built around race photographs that show real runners crossing historic squares and passing in front of the city's golden mosaics. This visual narration is the site's main conversion tool: a runner who sees those images immediately understands why Ravenna is different from any other race. The finishers' medal, a unique piece in artisanal mosaic created by Annafietta with a subject that changes every year, is presented with the prominence it deserves: for many runners it is itself a reason to register.
The navigation accompanies the runner in every phase of the path toward and during the event: from the distances to the Expo, from the bib collection to the side events such as the Shake Out Run, the Family Run, the Dogs & Run and the Correndo Senza Frontiere. The "Oltre la Maratona" calendar extends the season with dedicated appointments, from the Music Race Beer Edition to the Park Race all the way to Valli e Pinete in January. For those who come from out of town, the Where to Sleep and What to See sections complete the offering, turning the trip into a weekend. The FAQ system autonomously manages the most frequent questions, reducing the load on customer service during the peak periods.
The Become a Volunteer section supports the organisational machine of an event that depends in a crucial way on a motivated network of people. The Onlus Project adds a charitable dimension that goes beyond the competition, strengthening the emotional bond of the participants with the event. The Ravenna Marathon is also a stage of the HypER-5 circuit, integrated into the site with a dedicated section. The result is a platform worthy of an event with institutional recognition from the Municipality of Ravenna, the Emilia-Romagna Region, CONI, FIDAL and AIMS, capable of managing the registration peaks and of building year after year that loyalty which is the true heritage of a great marathon.
