There is a place in Ravenna where time seems to have deliberately stood still. Ca' de Vèn, “House of Wine” in the Romagna dialect, has occupied Palazzo Rasponi since 1975, but the walls that house it date back to the late 14th century. Designing the website for this venue meant taking on an uncommon responsibility: it was not about communicating a restaurant, but about telling the story of a piece of the city itself.
The chosen platform was WordPress, combined with Slider Revolution and WPBakery, while WPML was used for multilingual support, a practical necessity for a venue located in the heart of a UNESCO World Heritage city, visited by tourists from all over the world who come for Dante, the mosaics and, quite often, for a well-made piadina. The staff can independently manage events, news and content without relying on external technical support for everyday updates.
From a visual standpoint, the website does not describe Ca' de Vèn: it evokes it. The homepage sliders are dominated by atmospheric photographs capable of conveying the warmth of wood, the soft lighting and the imagined aroma of Sangiovese wine. The color palette, made up of warm, dark and deep tones, is no coincidence: it mirrors the physical atmosphere of the venue itself, translated into pixels. Visitors arriving on the website should already feel as though they are inside, even before reading the opening hours.
The Menu and Wine Cellar sections follow a narrative logic rather than functioning as simple lists. The history of Palazzo Rasponi, with its changes of ownership, the Bellenghi grocery store and the restoration works, has a dedicated section that is far more than filler content: it is part of the venue’s positioning. Ca' de Vèn does not compete on price or fusion cuisine; it competes on identity. The website understands this and tells the story accordingly.
Event and news management is integrated natively into the platform, enabling continuous and up-to-date storytelling throughout the year. The result is a digital space that acts as a meeting point between tourists seeking an authentic experience, long-time residents of Ravenna and food and wine enthusiasts, capable of transforming online curiosity into real reservations.
