Real VT, many gyms, a single system

From the screen in the room to the app in your pocket

Real VT brings virtual fitness inside gyms. The idea is simple to describe and complex to realise: to offer a fitness centre high-quality virtual classes to project in the group exercise room and guided videos for the weights room, so as to broaden the schedule and contain costs without giving up the quality of a live lesson. Behind this idea there is not a website, but an entire software ecosystem that goNet has been designing and developing for years: a management portal, an in-room playback system on dedicated hardware, an app for users and an interface for the gym tablets, all connected to one another. It is one of the most complex projects goNet carries forward.

The heart of it all is the management portal, developed entirely from scratch by goNet, from which Real VT and the associated centres, gyms, hotels and wellness facilities, govern the entire service. It is here that subscriptions are configured, that one decides for each client whether to activate the classes mode, the weights room mode or both, that the visible video categories are chosen, that equipment, exercises and training programmes are managed. A single platform makes many different gyms work, each with its own configuration, its own content and its own rules.

In the room, the service takes shape through the VideoBox, the playback system that goNet develops on dedicated hardware. The VideoBox broadcasts the virtual classes on the screen of the group exercise room, with the initial waiting minutes, the actual lesson and the final stretching, and it manages the guided videos of the weights room, going so far as to make the two modes coexist on the same device. Here the work goes down to the lowest level, from the creation of the system image to optimised video playback on the hardware, with the integration of Uptivo to show the user's biometric telemetry in overlay during the workout.

The point of contact with the person is the Real VT app, developed in Flutter for Android and iOS. From here the user accesses the on-demand classes and the weights room programmes, and above all checks in and checks out by framing the QR code projected on the lesson, a simple gesture that governs attendance, scores and reviews. The app gives a notification when a class is about to begin and reminds the user to complete the check-out, and in the version with administrator access it even allows an exercise to be filmed directly from the phone camera and uploaded as customised content.

Beneath the surface there is a dense and entirely tailor-made logic. Each centre decides which equipment and exercises to make available, creates private training programmes associated with the individual client and manages its own content with a recycle bin system that hides instead of deleting, propagating visibility in a cascade among equipment, exercises and programmes. Those who do not show up to a booked class end up, if the gym so wishes, on a temporary blacklist. And everything, from the portal to the projector, from the tablet to the app, speaks Italian, English, French, German and Spanish. Keeping so many pieces coherent is the real challenge of the project.

Real VT is not a single product, it is an ecosystem that lives on web, mobile and hardware together, and that goNet evolves step by step, one function and one device at a time. A single technology that makes many different gyms run, from the screen of the group exercise room to the phone in your pocket, with the person who trains at the centre of it all.
